Overview
This article explains how transaction statuses work in ValPay, how they sync with Adyen, and what to expect when a transaction moves from Authorization to Sale.
Once a transaction is captured in Adyen, should the status in ValPay update to "Sale" the same day or the next day?
Both paths exist. ValPay syncs settled transactions from Adyen four times per day (8 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM, and 5 PM ET), so in most cases the status updates to Sale the same day the capture is booked in Adyen. Independently, a full settlement reconciliation runs overnight against Adyen's official daily settlement reports, which guarantees the status is updated by the following morning (~4–6 AM ET) at the latest.
What is the status flow between Adyen and ValPay when a card is charged?
When a card is charged, Adyen sends a real-time webhook notification and the transaction is created in ValPay with a status of Authorization.
When Adyen captures and books the settlement, ValPay picks this up through two scheduled processes: (a) an intraday sync against Adyen's Transfers API, running four times per day, and (b) a nightly reconciliation against Adyen's official settlement report files, which also finalizes the net amount and fees. Either process transitions the status to Sale.
Status changes are driven by ValPay's scheduled syncs against Adyen's settlement data — not by a per-transaction settlement webhook.
Why does the Sale status in ValPay not display the time it was updated?
The status-change timestamp is recorded internally (including the settlement date from Adyen), but the portal currently displays only the original transaction timestamp, which is intentionally preserved so the transaction date stays accurate. Displaying the settlement/status-update time in the UI is a planned display enhancement — the underlying data already exists.
What is the expected timeframe for a transaction to move from "Authorization" to "Sale" once Adyen shows it as "Captured"?
Typically the same business day, within a few hours, for captures booked during the 8 AM–5 PM ET sync window. Captures booked after the last afternoon sync will update the following morning once Adyen's overnight settlement report is processed — within 24 hours of capture. That is the safe commitment for clients.
